Program Overview

Diploma in Theology, Logic and Philosophy is a unique course dealing with one of the most intellectually demanding subjects in Islamic education. The complexity of these subjects is multiplied by the fact that throughout the Islamic history there have been many different schools of theology at odds with each other. This was given rise by the emergence of different philosophical approaches to knowing God and understanding revelations.

 

This course is suitable for advanced students who wish to understand the theological and philosophical differences between sects in Islam as well as to learn how to deal with these differences in a way that is conducive to coexistence. The students will also learn that there more important aspects to the religion than theology and philosophy which many times gets overlooked because of the portrayal of theology as the most important aspect of the religion.

  • Understanding Al-Aqeedah at-Tahawiyyah (Imam Tahawi) – Classical Islamic Theology
  • al-Muqaddimah – An Introduction to History (Ibn Khaldun)
  • Hujjatullah al-Baligha – The Profound Evidence of Allah (Shah Waliullah) – Part 1
  • Hujjatullah al-Baligha – The Profound Evidence of Allah (Shah Waliullah) – Part 2
  • Tahāfut al-Falāsifa – The Incoherence of the The Philosophers (Al-Ghazzali)
  • ar-Radd ‘ala al-Mantiqiyyin – Refutation of the Greek Logicians (Ibn Taymiyyah)
