Diploma in Usul al-Tafsir and 'Ulum al-Qur'an explores the unique style and arrangement of the Qur’an and the various ways in which people have tried to understand the meanings of the Qur’an. The Qur’an is unlike any other book. It is in this world but it does not belong to this world. It is the eternal word of Allah, The Most High. Not realising this many people approach the Qur’an as they would approach any other book and this often leads to confusion and disappointment. This course will address the principles surrounding understanding, interpreting and reflecting upon the Qur'an.
This course is suitable for any Muslim who wishes to have a greater understanding of the sciences surrounding the Qur’an. The course starts by introducing the principles of interpretation and understanding and then goes on to give a practical application of this in the form of Surah Fatiha and the last ten surahs of the Qur’an. Then it explores two of the advanced books on this subject dealing with the subtleties of the language to give a framework for further studies and exploration.
